The Feed

"Into a hungry ghost — eating the world alive"

The Context

The average person now touches their phone over 2,600 times a day. Social media platforms are not designed to connect us — they are designed to maximize the time we spend inside them, because our attention is the product being sold to advertisers. The algorithm does not care about your wellbeing. It cares about your engagement. Fear, outrage, and envy generate more clicks than joy or contentment. So the machine learns to feed you more of what makes you anxious, more of what makes you feel inadequate, more of what makes you reach for the next thing.

The Story

This song begins where most of us begin every morning: with the phone. Before we have spoken a word to another human being, before we have looked out a window, before we have had a thought that is entirely our own — we have already been fed. The hungry ghost of Buddhist tradition is a being with an enormous stomach and a mouth too small to ever be satisfied. The Feed asks: have we become a civilization of hungry ghosts?

What to Listen For

Listen for the way the music itself mimics the feed — frantic, layered, never quite settling. The bridge accelerates into something almost unlistenable before cutting to a single notification ping and silence. That silence is the point.

The Question This Song Asks

"When did you last have a desire that was not suggested to you by something you saw on a screen?"
